- Radiators, TV sets, cars – everything is going online in the Internet of Things, making them attractive targets for hackers. Smartphones are a particular focus. Why are they so tempting?
Once they've hacked you, your privacy becomes an all-you-can-eat buffet: they can locate you, eavesdrop on your calls, read your texts and e-mails, read your passwords, browse your photos, access your Facebook profile, and spy on everything else you do with your smartphone. What's more: they can take control of your phone and go shopping at your expense, for example. And since you always carry your smartphone with you and log on to a lot of public WiFi networks, unsecure connections make it especially easy for hackers to attack you. There are already 15 million viruses in the wild for Android smartphones alone, and their numbers continue to explode.
With the expansion of the Internet of Things and the gigantic increase in vulnerable targets, the dangers of cyberspace continue to grow. That's why Deutsche Telekom has come up with a completely new way of helping its customers protect their smartphones against hackers in the mobile network.

smartphone
- To improve the security of Internet users, Deutsche Telekom has made cybersecurity a matter for the network. What this means: Deutsche Telekom can intercept many viruses and hacker attacks before they even reach your phone. The system is called Protect Mobile, and it involves Telekom customers downloading the identically-named app on their smartphones.
The app provides effective protection against phishing attacks, for example – dangerous links in e-mails that hackers use to spread malware and capture passwords. But the protection goes much farther than that. Even the dangerous Pegasus virus, the first to shake up the iPhone world in late 2016, which was previously thought safe, is intercepted reliably. This virus turns your smartphone into a mobile bugging device and is spread as a drive-by download on websites set up by hackers.
